Membership Benefits

As an ECSA recognised Voluntary Association, STE members qualify by default for:

  • 40% rebate on annual ECSA professional registration fees.
  • 1 CPD point credit per annum - this constitutes 20% of credits required.
  • Access to STE accredited CPD training courses and events.
  • The prestigious STE Marconi Award and STE Tesla Award for Innovation are awarded annually from the ranks of participating members.
  • Bursary study grants (undergraduate and postgraduate) are awarded annually to members and their children studying towards engineering and non-engineering curricula respectively at any of the recognised tertiary institutions.
  • Representation on various intra- and extra-organisational advisory boards, e.g. Telkom Retirement Fund (TRF), UNISA, etc.
  • Representation of occupational and professional interests through active engagement with the Telkom Group, statutory bodies, and professional organisations.
  • Reimbursement of annual membership fees of relevant statutory and professional bodies, as originally negotiated by the STE.
  • Benefit from specially negotiated deals and preferential rates, e.g. 'Envoy for Telkom Engineers' short term insurance package from Alexander Forbes.
  • Branches of the Society are subsidised for educational and social events.
  • Special assistance is afforded to Associate Members (members in retirement) by being up to date with news and information, and supported in issues related to the company.
  • Networking opportunities (internal & external) with other professional engineering practitioners through collaboration with peer voluntary associations and other institutions.

Membership Classes

The membership classes of the Society comprises of Members, Associate Members, Honorary Life Members, and Fellows.

Members

All professionals (as defined in the constitution) employed by Telkom are eligible for membership. Members form the base for appointment of office bearers, and are entitled to one vote each.

Associate Members

All members retiring on pension are eligible for election as lifelong Associate Members of the Society. Associate Members do not contribute to the finances of the Society, are precluded from holding office (except in a non voting capacity) or voting.

Honorary Associate Members

Honorary Associate membership is conferred on individuals occupying a high profile position and wielding considerable influence within the organisation for which they work or represent, and with whom the Society wishes to engage in a formal association. Honorary Associate Members are unanimously elected by the Central Executive Council. Honorary Associate Members do not contribute to the finances of the Society and are precluded from voting or holding office.

Honorary Life Members

Honorary Life Members are unanimously elected by the Central Executive Council for rendering outstanding services to the Society over an extended period of time. Honorary Life Members do not contribute to the finances of the Society and are precluded from holding office or voting.

Fellows

Fellowship, as an honorary grade of membership, is conferred on high profile professional members of the Society. Fellows are unanimously elected by the Central Executive Council.Fellows do not contribute to the finances of the Society and are precluded from holding office or voting.
